Meet our new Implementation Consultant and avid surfer, Tyler Hammerand

Where did you grow up and what was it like?

I grew up in Ventura, California. It was an amazing place to be raised. It was one of the only southern California beach towns that hadn't seen exponential growth and therefore I was able to enjoy the beach and nearby mountains without the negatives of larger beach towns.

Outside of work, what are you irrationally passionate about?
I'm an avid reader and also a lifelong surfer. The two tend to go hand in hand as reading on the beach and on a plane to an exotic location pair quite well together.
What’s been the most exciting part about joining Relo Metrics?
The people. Everyone I've met on the team has been excited about their position and that enthusiasm is infectious.
Describe your superpower or describe what unique skill/perspective you bring to the team here.
I'm a bit of a generalist. I'm interested in a lot of different things so I look forward to seeing how the different departments interact and contribute to Relo. I've been a GM, helped found a business from the ground up, and worked as a sales manager. I think these perspectives help me see the big picture and how my specific role here is helping to bring that all together.
What skill, practice, behavior, hobby or habits are you currently working on?
I'm currently working on setting up a good morning routine. I think waking up with a cup of coffee, doing some yoga, and practicing meditation are great ways to start the day with a clear and focused mind. Sometimes the days work starts before the work day has begun.
What book, publication, or podcast have you most recommended lately and why?
Other Minds by Peter Godfrey-Smith: If you saw the short documentary, My Octopus Teacher and enjoyed it, this book will be of interest. It dives into these majestic sea creatures but analyzes them from the standpoint of alien life. They evolved so far down the evolutionary tree from humans that they are the closest we may get to interacting with intelligent, alien life forms.
